Arthroscopic Bankart Operation
When to do it?
When to do it?
- In situations of recurrent shoulder instability/dislocation in which there is an anteroinferior lesion of the glenoid labrum, also called a “ Bankart lesion ”.
Procedure
- Arthroscopy is a minimally invasive procedure in which a lens/camera is used to observe the entire shoulder joint and in which, through other small incisions, work instruments and suture anchors are introduced to allow the labrum to be repaired.
- There are different types of anchors that can be used. With the technological evolution of suture materials used in the shoulder, it is now possible to suture the labrum with tissue anchors . These anchors, as the name suggests, are made only with suture threads and are placed in the antero-inferior region of the glenoid and allow the suturing and fixation of the injured labrum back to the glenoid.
- This technique allows the patient to be discharged the same day or to spend just one night in the hospital .
